Staff Selection Commission - Combined Graduate Level Examination, often referred to as SSC CGL is an examination conducted to recruit staff to various posts in ministries, departments and organizations of the Government of India. It is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission for selecting staff for various Group B and Group C posts. The Staff Selection Commission was established in 1975. Candidates are required to visit this site regularly for further updates from Staff Selection Commission of India.

SSC had made changes in the minimum and maximum age limit from the past years. SSC has notified that upper age limit will be 30 years and minimum age limit is 20 years.

New age limit 20-30 years

Candidates who are interested to appear in SSC exam must have their nationality as Indian. This is the most basic requirement for all the government jobs in India.

As I told you above candidate must go through four phases that is Tier-1, Tier-2, Tier-3 and Tier-4 Exam. Now I am discussing it briefly..

• The overall time for CGL Tier-1 online exam is 60 minutes only
• No. of Questions in exam will be 100 only.
• There will be 25 Questions per Section.
• Negative marking in Tier-1 Exam is 0.50 marks

• General Intelligence and Reasoning (25 Questions of 50 Marks)
• General Awareness (25 Questions of 50 Marks)
• English (25 Questions of 50 Marks)
• Quantitative Aptitude (25 Questions of 50 Marks)

This is good news for all candidates that there is No change in the Exam Pattern. Only change is the mode of exam from Offline to Computer based Exam.

• Paper-1 : Quantitative Abilities (100 Questions of 200 marks)
• Paper-2 English Language and Comprehension (200 Questions of 200 marks).
• Paper-3 : Statistics (100 Questions of 200 marks).
• Paper-4 Finance and Accounts (100 Questions of 200 marks).

NOTE : for each section there would be two hours given to you.

This is descriptive (Hindi/English) exam with paper pen mode. (100 Marks with 1 Hour duration)

This exam is proficiency (skill test Wherever Applicable) & Document Verification, candidates have to show their real knowledge apart from bookish knowledge.

In this phase candidates have to face 100 question of 200 marks. Now this 100 question would be divided into 4 section where each section comprise of 25 questions..

For each correct answer candidates get 1 marks and at the same time for each wrong answer, 0.5 mark would deducted.

Candidates who qualify tier 1 would able to appear in this phase. Tier II is also an online mode exam in which tier 1 qualifiers have to answer 3 paper where 3rd one is option for everyone except the candidates who are applying for Statistical Investigator/Junior Statistical Officer posts. In paper 1 consists of English questions, Paper 2 consists of Quantitative Abilities type questions and in paper 3 consists of Statistical Methods type questions.

All the candidates who have been successfully qualified above two tiers would able to appear in this tier. SSC had introduced same tier in last year (2017). SSC introduce Tier III to check candidates writing skills. In this phase candidates have to answer Descriptive Paper either English or Hindi. This paper consist of 100 marks question in which applicants have to score minimum 33 percentage to qualify Tier III. Descriptive paper consist of 10+2 stranded question. This paper might be consist of essay/ Passage 250 words and letter/ Application writing of Approx 150 words. Anyhow you can check out previous year question paper for more details.

Candidates who have been successfully qualified tier I, II & III would be eligible for Tier IV. This Tier is simple as compare to other three Tiers. In this phase candidates have to clear data entry skill test and then finally he/ she successfully pass SSC CGL exam. Data Entry Skill also known as Computer Proficiency Test (CPT). Here candidates have to type 8,000 words in one hour or 2000 words in 15 minutes. Basically this test is introduced to check candidates Data entry speed in computer..
